Contemporary Irish Female Artist
Welcome to my website. This site aims to offer you something a little different. That is to say distinctive batik, mixed media abstract art influenced by the nature that surrounds me. In other words as a contemporary Irish female abstract artist I create my own interpretation of the local Irish landscape. Firstly, working with batik I get to exaggerate the natural colour with organic dyes. Further, by applying layer upon layer of texture with local flora I create sensuous works of art that have a wonderful tactile quality. Therefor each handcrafted piece is unique. Certainly it is impossible to control how and where the wax cracks. As a result there will always be colour and design variations. Above all I love the element of surprise involved as a new piece dries.
Mixed Media Irish Artist
Most certainly I was fascinated by art from an early age . Therefore it was my favourite subject in school. Moreover growing up in Ireland during an economic recession saw me drawn to the artistic road. As a result I trained in graphics and screen printing and consequently qualified as a sign writer. On the other hand it soon became too computerised for my liking . After that I did a course in batik and quickly realised that it was a better choice. Since then, I have subsequently taken new paths with my batik range. My collection includes original batiks as well as high quality prints and a note card range which are all taken from my originals. Currently I am also working on more mixed media pieces that incorporate local Irish flora.
Inspired by Irish Landscape
I certainly get to live in a beautiful part of the world on the south coast of Ireland at the entrance to Cork harbour close to The Wild Atlantic Way. This consequently has been such an integral part of my work. For instance there is a favourite local beach called Fountainstown where I go nearly every day to walk the dogs. In addition I have even been known to take the occasional swim. Moreover in the distance you can see Roches Point lighthouse with waves sending water spraying up in the air against the rocks. Above all there is something so soothing about the sea. Certainly it is nice sometimes to just sit and watch the local fishing and sail boats passing. In addition if you are lucky, you might even get to see a pod of dolphins.
I care deeply about this wonderful planet of ours. I strive to ensure I provide a product that is earth-kind and as sustainable as possible. For example I use 100% recycled cotton for all my original work. In addition over the last 20 years I have explored many different organic colour techniques. Further I have experimented with naturally sourced dyes from various spices and vegetables such as turmeric, chillies, beetroot and various teas. In addition when you purchase from this website, you are supporting small Irish businesses, who are all doing their bit for the environment also. In the same vein all packaging and paper stocks are sourced from local businesses. Moreover I use my local post office to ship all the lovely packages.
