Cheese Plant

This original wild atlantic way art piece is inspired by the everchanging Irish land and seascapes. The process of batik involves applying melted wax to the cloth once I have created the design and colour scheme. The wax resists the dye when the cloth is dipped and this process is repeated for each colour. Finally, the wax is removed using an iron and newsprint paper. The recycled cotton cloth then eventually returns to its original texture. Given the unpredictability of where and how the wax cracks when submerged in the dye there is always an element of surprise with Batik This is how the overall Batik effect is created and is also what makes each piece so unique.
